About
Magee's Bees is a local honey producer and bee farm in Bath that started with Patrick (Paddy) Magee and the attitude of why the hell not?
The Founder
Paddy has always been a great enthusiast of the outdoors, from an early age Paddy was submerged in the countryside, gardening and beekeeping. This progressed into becoming a landscape gardener where he learnt about hard landscaping as well as garden maintenance and plant knowledge. Paddy joined the Commando Forces Engineers which help to expand his outdoor and construction knowledge only further, after a successful career in the military Paddy came back to his roots.
Magee’s Bees was created as it was found there was no large-scale local honey production in Bath and the surrounding area and the decline of bee populations nation-wide needs to be addressed. Furthermore, session mead producers in the Southwest let alone England are severely lacking. Magee’s Bees wants to fix this and bring locally produced honey and mead to the Bath and Somerset area.
Our Local Honey
The honey we sell is all made by our own bees in and around Bath, we rear the bees, process and package the honey ourselves from hive to jar. This ensures you get a great quality locally made Bath honey. Our honey is 100% pure and untainted with any other blends so you know it is going to be great quality produce.
What is Session Mead?
It’s not beer, it’s not wine. mead is its own category of alcohol consisting of honey, water and yeast.
Traditional mead is typically 12-18% ABV and has a likeness to sweet wine, session mead sits between 4-7% ABV and is boosted with carbonation to help lift the flavours to the surface. In some cases, fruit is added to add to the flavour.
Here at Magee’s Bees, we are creating session mead as it is great to have at home or out and about with family and friends. It is light on the pallet and has a clean fresh taste and its main ingredients are locally sourced in Bath and the surrounding area.
